Understanding music theory improves sight reading, helps memorise any score in much shorter time and refines composition skills. Even more, it will expand students’ musical horizons and enhance their music appreciation. For many students studying for grades it is a requirement to pass grade 5 music theory in order to progress to grade 6 and beyond.
Music theory classes will cover:
- Time signatures
- Key signatures
- Scales (Major, minor harmonic, minor melodic and chromatic)
- Clefs (treble, bass, octave treble, alto and tenor)
- Intervals
- Chords
- Cadences
- Transposition
- SATB (writing out 4-part harmony)
- Composition
- Standard orchestral instruments general knowledge
- Mock exam
