The flute is a poplar side-blown woodwind instrument used in a broad number of musical styles including Western classical music, jazz, folk, military band music and even occasionally in rock. It’s the oldest musical instrument that’s still in existence. Flutes have been found that are over 40,000 years old. There’s a wide repertoire of music written for the Western Concert flute by composers throughout the ages, the oldest being Vivaldi’s flute concerto, La tempesta di mare. Some famous classical compsitions featuring flute include Mozart’s Magic Flute, Prokofieff’s Peter & The Wolf and Debussy’s Syrinx. The flute is also featured in jazz and rock, notable artistes being Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Eric Dolphy, Yusef Lateef and Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson.

We offer flute lessons to students of all ages and abilities. For students interested in grades, we offer preparation for ABRSM and Trinity exam boards.
